Best geocache GPS?

I just use my Lowrance H2O. It's nice because it's waterproof. Gotta dl the coordinates.

Garmin E-Trex is also a good choice.

Keep in mind that your phone probably gives you better accuracy since it utilizes cell phone towers when there is reception - but is worthless when out of range. It is more accurate than GPS satellites.

A phone is indeed enough. Geocaching has never been about precise positioning.

I'm not so much focused on precision as I am worried I'm going to drop to my phone in 4 feet of snow, off a cliff, etc. It's also just a bummer to have to pull out my phone, ignore emails and text alerts, and still kill my battery in 20 min. I'm going /out/ to get away from that fuckin' thing.

Seconding the E-Trex.

I have on, and it's great as a beginner GPS, though the interface is a pain in the ass once you get more involved in the game and need to load tonnes of .gpx files.

I have a garmin dakota. it's gud.
I don't think it's in production anymore but it's waterproof. I don't like the idea of 'beginner's' stuff because if you step up and buy a non-beginner {device} you've spent more money.

A GPS is good for more than geocaching. Etrex are good but there are better ones out there.

Bang for buck? Garmin's eTrex line. Look on craigslist and you can find them for under $50.

Want something more capable? Check out the 60/76 line. I'd go Cx or CSx.
IMO the new trail receivers (62/78) blow ass. Packed too much shit into them and made the interface much more difficult to use.

Yeah a decent GPS is water resistant, rubberized and can take a carabiner/belt/lanyard mount.

I found some little camera role tube with geocache shit in it hidden in an out of use phone box. It had paper in it with a list of names and dates of people writing it. I wrote massive dickbag 6/6/6

Your phone is plenty good. It lets you find new caches while you're out walking. You don't need pin-point accuracy. Walk in an X to figure out where the coordinate point is, and use your head.
