What do you think about those 'cross a country in a straight line' challenges?
Cringe or something you'd consider doing? Seems like a bit of a hassle to deal with all the people who are mad at you for trespassing, ngl.

I've watched all his straight line videos and think straight line challenges are pretty cool, it actually takes a lot of planning and you get some hard obstacles, i wouldn't do it myself though desu unless it was open access land, trespassing on open farm land or forests isn't a big deal but having to go through someone's garden would be a big no

He plans using Google earth and uses gps so I'd assume the software he uses to plot the line does take into account curvature although it doesn't make much difference for small countries in Europe like wales or Norway

where i live has a lot of open land that is technialy owned and i often think about just going across it because i know no one has been there in decades. and the idea of doing it in a straight line seems fun. makes it more than just a walk. To many buildings around here though if i wanted to go any real distance i would for sure end up having to climb over a store front. but the idea is nice.

I think he presents trespassing as a "cheeky bit of banter", when in reality it borders on being a violent transgression upon someone's safety. Imagine you watched his video knowing your kids were in the house, you were in the field and a man ran across your property. It's violating.

Have you ever had your car robbed? Or someone burglar your house? It's not really the stuff that was taken that is so violating but rather that someone was inside or on or interfered with YOUR property. It's a violation. And yes walking across a field isn't anywhere near as bad, but it's still morally wrong.

And there's an easy solution as well - just call the farmers up, explain the situation and get permission. But that doesn't make for good "content", so he continues to violate people's property rights while filming himself for clicks and money.

One could also argue that saying you own part of the Earth and only you can be on it is immoral. I understand not coming in your house, but if one owns vast acreage and this bothers them, they're just some jew. Property owners should think of themselves as more stewards of the land than tyrants. No one can actually own the Earth. And anyone who thinks otherwise does not get my sympathy.

His mission stuff is the only reason I'm subbed to him. I think straight line missions are genuinely neat and offer a perfectly straightforward yet challenging objective that relies on quite a bit of effort.

Ive thought it would be cool to attempt but I'm having a very hard time thinking of places in the US where it would be viable. Between backcountry hazards, the real (albeit small) chance of being shot by some hick, or just sheer geographic scale there arent many options. Maybe the UP or some large chunks of federal land?

I dont mind him walking across empty fields and such, and do have issues when its right up to people's houses, or when they make fires on private property.
I do love the series tho, it essentially forces you to venture into uncharted territory. I do prefer the format GeoWizard does, with minimal support(not counting the current mission), carrying his stuff, being a bit stealthy, I find it a bit more entertaining than Archie Fieldhouse's attempts, who even tho they have more success and good production, loses some of the fun-ness in it by just speedrunning it. Still great tho, I just prefer Geowizard. I also really like Marcus the Chess Teacher's attempt, he sticks to the GeoWizard format, but he has some massive fuckups, tho he reminds me of me and my friends when we would be inspired by dumb stuff and attempt the same.

Sadly I agree. It used to be slightly entertaining, but its just slop right now. I think the best content he puts out are straight line missions, how not to travel x, and other various adventures, especially if he got Greg or his brother with him. Sadly it seems like he might be steering into more safer less adventourus stuff with a kid coming soon.
