I have a Giant Escape 3 and it's a pretty good bike. I've had it for about 6 years and have never regretted getting it, but I can't really comment on other bikes since it's the only non-shit bike I've owned.

it can handle dirt or gravel paths, but I wouldn't take it proper mountain biking. super bumpy areas do get uncomfortable
but yeah, overall Giant has been good in my experience. I really haven't had to do much with it other than basic maintenance and replacing the tires after they wore out.
