Supposing you fly in and out of SLC, what's the best way to spend 7-10 days in this area hiking and camping?

Are you looking to stay the whole time in Salt Lake or drive around a bit? Have you seen the usual fare (i.e. Utah's national parks, Tetons/Yellowstone), and if not, do you want to see it?

How far is your radius from SLC? What time of year are you going? If it's high summer I would go backpack the Unitas, if it is spring I would do the Wasatch, and if it is winter or fall I would hit the 5 national parks. The Tetons and Wind River range in WY also aren't that far, but the Wasatch is totally local

I've been through the area and went to the salt flats, but did not actually see the city itself. The flats are very pretty, camped around the desert/mountains in the area. There is some strange restricted facility on the West side of the flats, a concrete building surrounded by security fencing. People camp and ride ATVs in the back country.

i'm doing exactly this in september. don't have every detail nailed down just yet, but planning to explore the salt lake and wasatch range for a couple of days before moving on to the bridger wilderness and grand teton/yellowstone. finishing up with a day in craters of the moon
