>>2745756>>2745710German anon here who likes to go fishing and has a opinel, a mora and a leatherman that cover most /out/ requirements. I'll just say the pros and cons for each:
>OpinelBeautiful knives and super compact as well as really light. I EDC a opinel No. 6 and I do take it fishing regularly. The blade isn't good for heavy duty stuff, but for fishing that doesn't matter. It's great for cutting line, minor utility stuff and perfectly fine for killing small fish. Anything medium or large however, and it gets annoying because the blade is short (that part could be fixed if you just get a bigger one) but more importantly because the blood and innards get into the slit that the blade sits in. You can clean it in some water and it'll continue working, but it starts smelling eventually. You can get rid of the stench with a proper cleaning at home, but that's added maintenance that shouldn't be needed.
All in all, a great EDC knife and okay for fishing, but not ideal, mostly because of cleanup. 0 issue with warping over time with mine.
>MoraBulkier and not as beautiful, but very functional. The blade is plenty sharp for fishing activities and it's plenty long to kill any normal fish you'll catch. The plastic handle means it's trivial to clean (just move it around in the water) and it will neither stain nor stink excessively (a little for a short while is unavoidable). It's the better fishing knife and not much more expensive, the only two downsides are the bulk (no issue when fishing from the shore, but if you're in a small paddle boat it can get in the way) and the thicker blade means for some small fish it's hard to kill them properly without damaging the surrounding tissue.
>LeathermanMain reason I bring it is for the pliers. Other than that it's a heavier and more expensive opinel for fishing uses, except stainless rather than wood, so the smell is marginally better. Still shit to clean though.
