Have you noticed mission creep? Where the season 1 starts out with a believable crew, and by season x+ they are fielding people who are more actors, meant to make it look impossible? Everyone has to be a filmmaker. Therefore the contestant is not really focused on survival the same way, there's always a bit about 'how will this look?'
Then there's the agenda where any males are incompetent. Particularly white, straight ones. Was this guy a plant? 'Please show us that you step on your own tools.. make sure to operate a camera and capture that moment of buffoonery'
I don't watch TV. I tried screening an earlier season, but it was cringe. Remember, in soviet russia, TV watches you. You are the product, not the consumer.
