NTA, but have hiked all over the western half of the US, and just got back from a 7 mile, 2200 ft elevation hike. Used a sweet stick someone left at the trailhead, and didn't need to waste money on it :)

2200 is a lot for doing it in 3 hours after work on a weekday. This weekend I'm doing the enchantments traverse (18 miles 5k elevation) :)

I use a 7 foot tall maple hiking staff with a copper end cap. Built it myself. Sealed it with tung oil. The proper way to use a hiking staff is to switch hands every mile or so. Gives a pretty decent workout for your delts and other muscles. Sort of a mild easy going full body workout. You know how you see those little old ladies power walking with 1lb dumbbells? Hiking with a 7 foot hiking staff is probably similar to that.
