Not everywhere has birch trees. Most of us also practice leave no trace and cutting down a tree is pretty illegal just to harvest it's bark properly

depends, I had a Kokopelli Kayak that was pretty good, never had a problem with it, although it took up almost a whole backpack or the whole rear rack on my bike.

If I buy a new one I am skipping the whole spray skirt and just going for the smallest and lightest one to throw in a smaller daypack and keep in my car
