What's the difference? A track up one valley can be a lot more difficult than going off piste down another valley depending on terrain. Some hiking trails will take you to places that are gnarly as hell and the track is the only possible access. You can go way deeper into the wild on a trail and then cut off and free range it once you're way back. You ain't getting that far in a day by bush bashing. You can also bush bash your way in and then hit a trail that you know is a good walk out. I sure as shit appreciate a trail when I have to venison /out/ on a hot summer day.
