What I really don’t get is how the name doesn’t clue people in. “Death Valley”, how much more fucking specific does it need to be? Like if I pulled up to the parking lot and the trailhead sign said “Rape Valley” yeah I’m probably gonna bring a chastity belt.

This idea of comfort over utility has gone way too far. I do t even think it’s a matter of comfort. Flip flops aren’t comfortable; your feet slide around, and anything other than a slow walk on even ground causes them to shift or move. I think they’re more form than function; a fashion statement proclaiming one’s comfort. They don’t make any sense outside of a pool or public shower.

Also branding is important for durability.
Im flatfooted so I agree wholeheartedly about them being impractical for a hike as my feet will sweat and that sweat will congeal until it gets downright slimy.

I would use them around the campsite and for breaks during walkabout

You can drive through death valley in under a day. I did it with my family as a teen. It was boring as fuck. It was insanely hot. To hot to be outside. AC in cars was really rare back then. I stayed cool by keeping our water pouch between my legs and hands.

I can't think of a sane reason why you'd go there, except to get to the other side.

It's really not a terribly impressive park. If you're really interested in the history of the Old West there's lots of old mines and ruins to check out.
But I have no clue why euros feel the need to go there. Dozens of other state and national parks within a day's drive that are far more beautiful
