>>2760429When I was a kid my dad or grandpa took me fishing and hunting all the time. They constantly lectured me on etiquette. "hey, maybe that guy really needs to put food on his table, or maybe he worked 70 hours this week and really needs a break. Be respectful of other sportsmen. Don't be a dickhead."
What I think is that as the fabric of our society frays people realize that there is this big group of people with an unspoken code of conduct you can beat them over the head with. They'll hold you to your standards, while gleefully having none of their own.
It's not just fishing this is happening in. Hiking, camping, hunting, or almost any other social interaction that occurs away from or on the margins of societey. I'm just running into these borderline sociopathic dickheads who are just there to derive entertainment from seeing how disruptive and vulgar they can be without triggering any consequences.
I'm not polite because I'm a bitch. I'm polite because I'm a 6'2" 220 pound athletically built Marine combat vet concealed carrying a Glock who just REALLY wants to be left alone for like, 4 to 5 hours on a Saturday. It always amazes me when I encounter one of these people getting in folk's faces and acting like overgrown toddlers.
Like, they just have NO IDEA how poorly this could go for them if they weren't dealing with civilized people. Hasn't happened during any of my /out/ activities yet, but a few times I've had some flabby dadbod idiot screaming and posturing in my face about literally nothing and just been wondering in amazement "does this guy have any fucking idea how bad this could go for him right now?"
