Work itself is not an exploit of the human condition, simply put man labours to survive. Living to work is the exploitation, if you work enough to afford your rambling life then that is enough.
I can tell you are young and naive, so this experience will be good for you. I recommend you try it and don't let the naysayers turn you away into a life of safe mediocrity. If you do this, you will suffer at times and you will most likely fail at what ever it is you aspire to achieve, but if in the pursuit you can reflect on yourself and appreciate the effort regardless of the reward then you will have truly lived out your dream.
