I once went to a meeting where the Navajo were protesting something being named after Carson because "he's like Hitler to the Navajo". I stood up and loudly explained why Carson did what he did and he should have done it harder; and the handful of younger Navajo were screeching "that's not true!!!" While all their elders were silently seething that I had exposed their grift. Nobody clapped and I was asked to not come back.
