Hi, Latvian here who constantly moves between England and Latvia.
I'm in former Courland Pocket territory. Seen some WW2 trenches, some soviet era artillery correction towers. Also found some Porcini/Baravikas spread them with smoked pork fat and trow them on fireplace. Will bump tread with picks from this journey and some picks from Lithuania and UK

What I like about Latvia it's not so overcrowded as England. You can set up camp pretty much everywhere. "Stealth camping" is not even term in Latvia

Since finished my studies I moved to England. Mainly because in Latvia - unless you have a previous experience (or unless you know someone (corruption)) nobody is willing to pay decent wage I work in electrical manufacturing field.

This is in Lithuania. Biržai. When Soviets occupied Lithuania they buried this statue. In Early ninties Lithuanians found the place that Soviets buried it and dug it up. Lithuanians made exact copy of it and put it at original place. While making example of original of what Soviets really are.

Been to Riga, Jelgava, Jurmala, and drove to a few national parks.
Crisp air, the sea water is so still and sweet, pretty much a giant clear lake.

Yeah I'm from two Block building village. There is German aristocratic manor and olmy house is just by the river and forest.. I feel really sentimental about history of place.. a Swedish army had a battle just 15 km away.. Latvian forest brothers were resisting Soviets in the same forest I'm picking mushrooms now

Sounds like a lot of history and ofc sentimental value to you, soviet times are luckily over but they've created a window where you can have more of an impact on your country, in fully built up places like England that's not really possible as you may know, but still a good place to live and earn a living in the meantime I imagine

In soviet times you were not allowed to be at beaches at certain times. Because Soviets were insecure that you might cross sea on a fucking log and escape to Sweden.. Before 1990 Russian military was patroling the the seaside as a random Latvian you wouldn't be allowed by coast

we were on a mission to check out Finland to see if we wanted to move there.

I recommend Kolka to Riga coastal walks. There is also P131 road running along coastline with buses to capital 3 or 4 times a day. So you can adjust your journey to your needs.

There is little villages with shops, every 20 km so you can travel light. Also they are not overpriced like Italy Croatia or Spain

In Latvia we have ice hockey as our national sport .. in Lithuania it's Basketball.. however lately we been better than our Lithuanian brothers at their sports..
