>>2768214>the silenceSo much this. Some days I go in the woods and hear almost nothing. Birds are silent, squirrels and chipmunks are nowhere to be found, not even many bugs buzzing around. Suddenly the creak of two tree trunks rubbing together will break the silence and make you jump.
>coyotes Only coywolves where I live, we have no population of normal coyotes. Was about 4-5 miles into a rough trail with my dog in this silence, didn't feel right even when I got there, but whatever, just didn't feel welcomed if that makes sense. Start to get the gut feeling im being watched, dog feels me get nervous, she got nervous, tucked herself at my rear hesitating to continue, suddenly the silence was broken by the chatter of coyotes on my flanks and ahead, maybe 100 feet around us (sound plus forest is hard to gauge). We hightailed.
The longer I spend in there the less I feel nervous about bears/coyotes etc.
