their lands are falling apart
republicans under-budget the forest service as much as possible
boomers give zero fucks about maintaining roads or trails
you have to follow a million rules about where you can camp or how
you can't sell food or drinks on their property, and they will enforce that, even a child selling lemonade they will come and violently shut you down
land conservation should be people-friendly and well run, that isn't asking too much
currently it's just about rules and regulations and miles of bureaucratic red tape

The park service exists in an eternal cycle of making nature way too accessible to millions of idiot tourists and then desperately trying to mitigate the damage they cause. This is a natural consequence of being a revenue generating agency of a capitalist, development focused government. There is no way for them to do better. They're given the contradictory mission (known as the "dual mandate") to manage land for both conservation and public enjoyment. This is obviously idiotic and over the course of a full century has lead to a truly fucking byzantine accumulation of bureaucratic nonsense as each new generation tries to undo the harm of their predecessors using the same limited tools. The funny thing is other agencies like BLM or FWS which have laxer regulation and less tourist development actually do a way better job of maintaining a landscape that's both ecologically healthy and pleasant to visit. I never go to any NPS sites anymore if I can help it.

The government has nothing to do with facilitating capitalism. If it did, there would be no national parks, but instead, there would be billionaire-funded parks that compete with each other to offer a better and more environmentally friendly park. This is basically how it was in ancient Rome the golden age of America. Now, the US is Chinalite cronycapitalism, aka socialism in its natural form.
