Should I get this ground chair or helinox chair one if I plan to read a lot? Which one is most comfortable long hours? Also should this ground chair leg construction prevent sinking into the ground?

i get taking a 3 panel butt pad on long hikes, it's usefull. and i even get packing in a full chair on short hikes to nice campsites. i once hauled a 50 pound icechest 2 miles when i was younger.

but these tiny little chairs just look so uncomftorable it doesn't even matter how light they are.

They're pretty comfy, I have the REI chairs made with DAC poles and a Big Agnes chair of a similar design.
I'm tall/ 240 lbs and they've seen some shit. My frends that bought the Scamazon knockoffs bent the poles in two trips, mine are still mostly not bent after five years although the chair fabric came unstitched on both of the REI chairs. Had my Mexibro upholsterer neighbor restitch them for me.
Camping and hiking always starts to hurt my back, all the squatting and bending over to pitch the tent and make the bed etc starts hurting me so a chair that helps me straighten my back out is worth the weight.
I have an inflatable butt pad I'll take on longer hikes but anything less than gruelling death marches I'll have a chair with me.
Haven't tried the one in op's pic but it looks like it would work good in soft terrain.

What ever happened to putting a blanket on the floor and sitting cross legged, or leaning on a chair. I've looked into these chairs, the only think I don't like is they don't just unfold. How long does it take to put one of these down?

These are more comfortable and they get you up off the wet or frozen ground. Helinox chairs take about 45-60 seconds to put together.

there is no way getting out of that thing is comfortable. maybe back when i was in my 20's it would have been a neat trick to show off a little. but i'm in my 40s now and after a day of hiking i would end up rolling out of that motherfucker after my knees locked.

I have one from china lands that works well but even at 900g or 700g I still would only bring it on very special occasions because it's not as comfortable to sit in it for long anyway. You kind of have to support yourself with your legs a bit all the time, it's not relaxing for long also assembly/disassembly gets old on the go and when it's cold you need a sit pad to insulate your ass.

A simple sit pad however always comes with me, it's almost as important as my rain poncho at this point.

Are you going somewhere with no trees?
Otherwise just take a hammock, you don't need to sleep in it, so you don't need all the bug nets and underquilts, it will be smaller, lighter and more comfortable.

I bought a chair zero specifically to take out and sit in the shade and read in nice weather. it is quite comfortable. I would not recommend getting the ground chair as the chair zero/one are already quite low.

I have a high backed amazon knock off. It's pretty comfy for chilling by the fire or fishing.im 6'2 210lbs. I might roll up a jacket for a new pillow. Those very low back ones are good for kids. They are really nice for parades and crap like that. I have 2 high backs and 3 lows for the kids and although they take a bit to setup the ease of carrying them makes it worth it. 1 cheapo tall fold out chair weighs the same as 4 of mine.
