Also, I think yeah, why the fuck not. But I also think the maintainer of the map should add more categories that you can switch off.
You can already use subcategories, but you can't toggle their visibility. That sucks.

>Skiing/Snowboarding (parks, resorts, backcountry)
>hiking/trekking/mountain climbing routes
>hiking/'trekking POI like peaks, lakes and cabins
>tourist/urban spots
>other outdoor stuff like boulder halls, rock hounding, etc.

Indeed, a wider range of categories might be good for the maintainer of the group to add. I happen to be a fairly avid rockhounder, so I might go about adding a bunch of my favorite sites, that mostly cover texas, new mexico, and arkansas.

You cna toggle the visibility of the three categories. I'll start adding others soon if enough people demand it.

err, nevermind. It lets me get to the page where you can add new categories, but it doesnt let me actually add them.

I say rockhounding, urban exploration, and perhaps a dedicated one for biking and hiking are in order.

I made it with a throwaaway email address and every time someone adds something to a map I get an email on there, so so far I've had over 500 emails in just over a day.

Sure I'll add some new categories soon-ish. The site is pretty sparse in terms of the little symbols they offer so I'll either try looking for relevant ones or try making my own ones to upload.

I'll have to make it clear to people that they can choose to un-check some stuff on the map legend because even now it's pretty hard to make shit out unless you zoom in to state level.

So yeah I'll add the stuff that gets recommended most, although I have a ton of university work on this week but I'll tyr my best

Okay so here's my plan, if you have a comment please reply (please respond):

1. I'll add a bunch of new categories if they're supported by a couple of anons (to avoid having, for example, a birdwatching category when only 2 guys are into that)

2. Instead of symbols I'll just go with colours since there are loads of colour markers

3. I'll make it clear in the updated info section that you can tick and untick the legend on the map so you only see what you want to see/avoid people spamming about the map being unreadable

4. I'll ask people if they've already added some Gr8 Locations (hearts) to change them to the releventa category, and since a lot of them won't be changed I'll try and change them to the relevant vategories

Thougts?

Sounds good. As for categories. I think you should consider which kind of things would most likely unnecessarily clutter the screen when viewed together. For example someone looking for a great hiking tour will probably like lake, and cabin, and peak locations, but really won't care about backcountry skiing locations right now.

Similarly, someone looking for indoor bouldering won't care about hiking tours.
