You can often OK gear at Goodwill or similar stores. Last year found an OG Alice pack the real thing not the cheap Chinese knockoff for 15 bucks. Frame and all. Every time I go to the thrift stores around me there's some basic bitch camping and hiking implements that the local hobos haven't gotten to yet.

Avoid antique stores because boomer scum will try to sell you a 50 year old canteen for 30 dollars.

I think most autists will agree that the research phase in any hobby is fun, not necessarily the buying. I usually get frustrated by how unnecessarily expensive things are and suddenly I'm wearing a $20 amazon poncho that works just fine instead of a $500 rain shell.

nta, but my MSR hubba hubba has lasted me 7 seasons. I’ve patched the floor with duct tape, replaced the elastic string inside the poles, and I need to treat the fly with a water-resistant spray. It’s been a great tent, but I bought it new for $250. I wouldn’t buy the new model; $650 for a 3 season tent is retarded.
