>>2773128Practice shooting for accuracy first, hunting is ultimately about getting the shot that kills your target. Get a rifle that's allowed to use for hunting in your area (I assume Texas allows pretty much everything) and get used to it. You'll probably want to put an optic on it, get that tuned in and learn to keep it adjusted.
If you want a cheap and easy intro get an air rifle and hunt squirrels. I do it for pest control but it's the same in concept, I've gotten pretty good at approaching them without scaring them off and getting my shot in. I rarely miss anymore, but I've been at it for 5 years with the same gun. Using the same gun and same ammo (not necessarily brand but pellet weight) is kind of important because you get used to exactly how it shoots and how to aim it precisely.
