Me latest one. Haven't bought a road bike in 20 years.

Newest on us a 29 inch with disc brakes, Di2 shifting and Brooks leather saddle and bar tape.

As much as I like the idea of motor bikers watching the other idiots on motorbikes around me behave like buffoons on the Sea to Sky highway, and I really don't want to be associated with them. Plus the lack of respect given to motorbikers is pretty terrible too. At least on a bike I have the option to get away from idiots on the road

Conspicuous consumerism. I rented a $7500 bike once. It was nice, but not 18x nicer than my $400 bike. I'd say not even 2x nicer.

A $1000 bike is easily 2x as good as a $500. I only paid $3,300 CanaBucks for it. Really simple lines, worth 3x as much, and no 2 year wait.

I hear you. Used to be if you wanted a full suspension bike around 2016 with Fox suspension $4,000 would get you there. Now it's pretty close to 9,000 before you get decent suspension. Now the stuff is all sitting on shelves. A bunch my local bike stores are still trying to sell stock from last year 30% off but nobody's biting

Yeah, hopefully that means it's reaching saturation. Like a lot of outdoor hobbies mtb has gotten lots of attention from tech yuppies that drive up prices for good gear that they barely use. Shit I recently came across premium $2k+ single speeds/fixed gears that don't even have suspensions. And at these prices they are considered middling or entry level. It's amazing how many bikes cost as much as a car now that aren't elite racing models
