I want to do a 14er. I am told Grays Peak is the best one for beginners. Given the weather I will be training through the winter so my calves and ankles don't cave on me like they did on Medicine Bow. Still made the full loop, but it was a struggle going uphill. Downhill was not bad at all.
That said, I hike with my dog because I don't have friends that like hiking. I know dogs are often frowned upon, but she's a big dog and I have a shock collar when she's off leash. Fortunately I never have to use it.
Anyway, compare Medicine Bow to, say, Gray's Peak and how would that compare? I don't think I noticed any altitude sickness at Medicine Bow at all, just didn't bring enough water was my only issue there. What should I expect, prepare for, equip, etc for babby's first 14er?
