Set traps around the chicken coop. Fuck irresponsible owners like that, catch the dog, send it to the pound with a photo of the chickens it's killed. This is the main reason I haven't gotten chooks yet,so many stray cats in my area.

If that doesn't help, a crossbow with hunting bolts works wonders. Don't fall for the gun meme, normal bullets will probably overpenetrate and not kill quickly enough (proper self-defense rounds may work, but even those aren't reliable against dogs, as their torsos are just too thin compared to humans). Wireshot would also work, but is banned in many places.

Depending on where you live you are fully within rights to put down those dogs. In most places there's legal protection for farmers putting down animals that harm their livestock.

Anon I will post again but I feel your pain. I woke up on Easter to the same scenario. Got 6 chickens and my 3 breeding heritage turkeys. I’m still devastated. This poor guy held on for a week before he died. He fought to protect our buff Orpington… our only chicken left from the first flock. Rest In Peace Lone Ranger!

Actually put out live traps. If the neighbors do right, apologize, compensate you for lost birds, and take control of their pet, then these will never see use. If the neighbors are cunty about it, well now you've live-caught the dog, have evidence, and can drop it off at your county's kennel.
Do not return the dog to the owners; bring it to your appropriate animal control shelter. Though said neighbors will be pissed and treat you like the fun police "BCUZ MY DOGGOS IN DOGGO JAIL", just remember, and remind them, that they had been warned, and had every opportunity to control their pet.

If they don't contain their dog after having to deal with a trip to the pound (any sane owner will at this point), then you can start putting out lethal traps, and start following advice like >>2779309, >>2779286, and >>2779459 give.

Both things I've unironically heard "gun-right activists" say. Though the "shoot everybody" took some prodding and pointing out how long drawing from full concealment takes (with a gun - with knives, it's much quicker).
I hate those gunnuts almost as much as hoplophobes. Guns are useful tools when you have to deal with animals or known aggressors, but they're not the be-all-end-all some people claim them to be. Even for classic self-defense, where you can't take action until you're actually being attacked, handguns suck compared to fixed blades.
