Hi there, /out/,

Just curious what you all carry when out in the woods. I carry my 92FS, loaded with hard cast ammunition for better penetration against large soft targets.

I sometimes carry a ruger GP100, 6". I usually don't carry it though, because of the LAWWWWWW MANNNNN and i don't have a CCW permit (OC is legal hurr)

I'm a forester and I carry a .38 special Colt police revolver for animals, poachers, and the angry loggers I have to deal with. I like the revolver because I don't have to worry about jams as much when it gets wet.

GP100 dude here. I live in Delaware, so there are not any national parks nearby.... I mostly carry it when we go to my buddy's cabin in PA bobcat territory. I prefer the wheelgun because it seems to me that it'd be more forgiving of harsh conditions that you might encounter outdoors. I'm more worried about farm dogs and humans then aggressive animals. I was almost mauled by a loose pitbull in the woods once. Sorry your thread turned to shit.

If I'm going out to the boonies for a couple nights, I'll bring my Makarov... I met a rabid raccoon one time that really left an impression on me. Thank god my dog was there and ripped him apart (she got a huge steak for dinner that night).

If I'm canoeing I'll bring my old sawed-off 20 gauge single-shot. I don't fuck around with water moccasins.

If I'm hiking into bear country I bring bear spray, as it is the right tool for the job. In grizzly territory I'll lug my magnum around too, but as an outdoorsman I'm more concerned with snakes and rabid critters than I am with a charging bear that isn't deterred by OC spray.

I'm glad to see someone rational about bear defense. Grizzlies will fuck you up, but black bears around here are skeert of humans and will usually only bluff charge you. Most bear attacks from what I understand are because humans were careless with their food

Varies state-to-state. Legal here in Texas as of a couple of years ago. But even then I usually keep it unloaded... bouncing around a canoe with a loaded gun doesn't sound smart to me. I just keep a couple of shells in my lifevest and can load that single-shot plenty fast for snake concerns.
