>How do I convince my parents to let me do cool outdoorsy things

Hi there. I currently live at home (Maritime Canada) with my parents and it's causing some problems. I want to do cool stuff like hiking, solo camping and such, but my parents are very recent third-world immigrants. They're convinced that I'm going to get mauled by a wild animal if I go for a walk in even the safest forest. They claim I don't know enough about the terrain and area even though I took outdoor education in high school and have been on 3 camping trips as a child.

I think the only way to convince them would be to show that I objectively do have the knowledge required. I've been reading prep and wilderness safety books, which I think might be enough to convince them. I'm aware experience is the best teacher, but it feels like this is the first step to getting experience. Most of the people I know are kind of trashy hicks who only enjoy ATVing and shit so I can't ask them to take me.

Does anyone else have any experience similar to mine? And what other resources would you recommend I look into? I'm tired of being cooped up and bored.
