I feel the woods calling me
I have zero real camping experience. I've just hiked a lot and camped in communal preset plots for music festivals.
How do I even start? Where do I even go? Do I bring a knife? I don't even know if I can camp and carry a big knife in my Orwellian ass country without some zogbot Guardia Civil popping out demanding money because I sat on whatever "protected" patch of grass.
All the innawoods I know are from /out/ and /x/, and it seems it's gonna be quite different in Spain.
Share any links/experiences/anything you have bros.

Nope, if I'm not mistaken you guys are as fucked if not more fucked than we are (Portugal here).
No wild camping, only camping grounds, that of course you have to pay for.

You can carry a knife, how large I don't know. Around here it's <=10cm blade = no problem unless the cop is a complete shithead who doesn't know the laws (so, 80% of them) anything beyond and it depends on how lucky you are with the cop that finds you and fines your ass.
You guys don't have any spanish bushcraft/camping forums? Those are usually good places with people who know the local do's and don'ts.

I'm a stealth camping fan (t. Germany), just find some forest, maybe even with a nice view, and set up in a place that people won't see you. I do it once every month or so and nobody has ever bothered me about it.

You should bring a knife, but not for defense. Using a pocket knife as a defense is retarded, but they're very very useful tools. I usually bring a leatherman type multitool and a little stove to cook meals. If you're really scared of bears or people, I guess you can carve a tree branch into a spear, that's better than a pocket knife. But people who don't really go camping are way more scared of bears/murderers than they need to be. I'm from the US (just living in Germany for a while) and have encountered bears in the woods more times than I can count and never had a problem.

There's a lot more than that but if you already have gear that's the biggest hurdle

Yes you're mistaken, Spaniards can legally set up camp for the night but it depends on the elevation.
As for knoives they're indeed more cucked than us and the 10cm blade rule doesn't apply and some power tripping guardia can fuck up with op but if he's carrying a sak is very unlikely anyone will care, not that a knoife is needed to go /out/ anyway.

Nice, I should look into it, Spain is only on the opposite side of the country...
At the same time, from what I've read from spanish anons, while the law is a bit more lax, the cops are worse. They actually put a semblance of effort into finding stealth campers.

Then again, I'm technically fucked in either country as my usual /out/ knife has 13cm of blade. But since I very rarely overnight, the chance of the cops bothering me is pretty much zero.

Spain is empty for European standards and quite mountainous so it really shouldn't be a problem

I'm going to be honest, I share a bit of the acab sentiment but don't think LEOs are a problem for /out/ists, I've covered thousands of km in backpacking/hiking/camping trips in both Spain and PT and only once saw authorities, even then it was nothing more than gnr in their 4x4 navarra patrolling for what I think it was fire forest fire prevention.
I've camped in protected areas of Gerês and Picos and zero problems, if you're going solo, with a partner or friend chances of being bothered are close to zero.

Technically if you have a reason to carry it (yes officer this knoife is to prepare my chorizo sandwich or do some wood whittling) you should be in the clear but yes I would prefer to not depend on the mood and interpretation of the law by some frustrated or brainlet statebot.

Check local legislation and law. Make sure you know exactly what you can and can't do.
Then understand that there's a difference between the letter of the law and the intent. In Germany we have a saying that translates to "without a plaintiff there's no case", essentially as long as you behave normally your chances of getting in trouble are much lower.
If a ranger sees your camp in the morning and you had an open fire in summer without adequate protection and there's trash around, you're getting some maxed out fines. If you didn't do anything dangerous and leave no trace, they won't care or at most ask you to move on in the morning.
Also look into hiking and trekking campsites. Camping at those is legal, but they aren't easy to get to (you have to actually hike there, you can't just park next to them for car camping) do most normies don't bother. I've been to a few, they are pretty wild and limited to 4-6 tents usually, but most of the time I (and who I was with) were alone only once was there one other tent.
Expect animals at some places to visit at night, where I live it's mostly boars with the occasional fox. If you have no food out that smells they will sniff around and leave again. Just be a bit more safe if they have young.
You can take a knife, usually the anti knife laws aren't about owning, but brandishing one, so if it's not in public it's legal, but even then no one cares in the woods. That being said I carry two knives and barely need them, mostly using a small opinel that would be legal either way.

What’s the point? I’ve camped in nearly every country in western Europe, never had any trouble, and I promise I can’t tell you what the laws are in any of them. Laws requiring you to be a good citizen are meaningless when they contradict the laws of nature, i.e. a biological organism like yourself following its natural inclination to sleep in the woods

The USA has definitely logged more of its forests than this board would like to admit (always grim to look at the Pacific Northwest West on google maps satellite view and see the patchwork of hundreds of logged squares) but they still have plenty remarkable ones even if now modified

Just Germany, as I said, nothing fancy. I live there, so it's nice to have a short travel to get there. This way if I get up early enough to travel there, I can basically still get a full day of hiking on the day I travel there, rather than having to factor in a whole day for arrival and another for departure. Only needing to take off as many days as you plan to hike (with maybe 1 more for recovery and cleaning and everything) makes it much more viable to go on shorter trips (3-5 days) rather than having to go all-in each time.
On that note, I really love how much the forest changes when you hike through it. You'll switch from a mossy wet area to an arid pine tree area within a day, so it never gets boring.

I don't really want to add fuel to the fire with the whole "my country is better than yours" cock comparison contest going on in /out/, I really only want people to go outside, even if it's not the most remote area in greenland or mongolia. Going outside in a 7/10 rather than a 10/10 area but doing so more often is still worth it and it beats not going outside at all.
That being said, something I am grateful for as a euro is vacation days. We get so many more than americans, which in turn means more time off to go /out/ and enjoy yourself. Same with holidays too.

Picrel is all within 2 days from my last trip, the variety is nice.

From Madrid para abajo, id say its harder to go /out/. If you live in the norte, there are plenty of places you can go. If its not a protected area, bring a tarp or just duerme al raso, since thats considered "pernocta" and not "acampada (wich is ilegal)". Españita has lots, and I mean LOTS of nice natural landscapes all over the country (outside la asquerosa Mancha). Just take a look to some close national park, natural park, natural reserve, or something like that. Then read the laws from that place (cambian en cada parque) and then, most important,

Dont worry about gear and all that shit, you will get better over time in that sense, and here doesnt mean much, this is not Alaska. If you're out of food, walk 3 hours downhill in one direction and there will be a village.
Also look for refugios no guardados, there are plenty and are the best way to sleep outside, 100% recomended.
