Hi /out/.

I don't know how often these threads crop up here, but I'd like to know if some of you would be willing to help a newfag with becoming accustomed to the /out/ lifestyle/hobby.
I'm more interested in going underground, whether it be in caves or basements. Climbing radio towers or stories of abandoned buildings also peaks my interest, as opposed to hiking through forests or deserts.
I have a few questions which on my mind which I'd like answered. First off, should I always go with a partner when urban exploring? I'm sort of worried that I'd get a dodgy partner off FaceBook or some shit, which would knock me out when I'm not looking, or even kill me, then steal my gear. I know no one which is interested in this. Secondly, is it neccesary to bring something like a pistol or knife for self defense if I run into some thug? I know it isn't likely, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Is there a pastebin or something with detailed information? And finally, what are some books, documentaries or brands that you would recommend? I've been browsing for a couple of days now and I'm getting exited, so I have done a bit of research. Still, I'd like to hear what you have to say, since you guys seem to know a lot about this sort of thing.
From the few days I've been on here, /out/ seems fairly welcoming, but I'd still like to apologize for newfagging. Thanks.
