They're for logging in the PNW. Good for wet, slippery logs. Probably would not be very useful in dry areas, or shield.

I work in forestry in the PNW and ran corked boots for a couple of years pretty regularly. They're great for scrambling around on wet logs and branches, especially in steep terrain. Not so great if you have to do any walking on pavement or in terrain with a lot of exposed rock. The metal on rock contact is really jarring and painful enough on the knees that I just stopped wearing them altogether.
