>>2800211My favorite part of Alaska native oral tradition is the stories about first coming to Alaska. They came and found people here already - 8-10' tall hairy people. Lived side-by-side for a time, until a native killed a bigfoot in a dispute over a canoe and the bigfeet peaced out.
During the Gold rush there was a handful of accounts from men out in BFN describing encountering these things. In 1921 a village near to Homer, Portlock, was abandoned by the local natives because of a bigfoot, and despite talk and some poking about the place has never been resettled. My favorite part of that story is everyone noping out in 1920, but the poor Postal Officer has to stay there by himself another year before officially closing the station and ending the village.
I know of a hill near Fairbanks where over half the people claim to have seen one, a very high number.
All that to say, of the weird things I've encountered I've yet to see a bigfoot. I figure that's to be expected. If they were to get by anywhere it would be in the stretch of land from Western Canada through to Alaska.
