I am done with mats and tents and I have never done this before but I want to try because lighter for hiking.

once you add in an underquilt for the cold and a bug net for the summer, you're not saving any weight.
even if you're willing to forgo the bugnet in the summer, then a sleeping pad+tarp is lighter

Use an underquilt. I tried sleeping in a hammock in only a sleeping bag, and when the temperature went down to around 50 F at night I was absolutely freezing cold.
The sleeping bag gets pressed by body weight against the bottom of the hammock and loses its insulation ability and then the air steals your body heat.

Then where is the weight coming from? An underquilt and some rope doesn't weigh anywhere near as much as a winter pad and poles and stakes and a floor.

The tarp and the hammock together contain more material than a tent. The bug netting is larger than the bug netting on a tent. There are still four stakes like an UL tent, with options of using more. There can even be poles (such as a pole mod; looked for a pic but couldn’t find one). An underquilt is always heavier than the equivalent pad, and suspension and guylines are significant (in terms of UL ounce counting).

Hammocks definitely come out on top in the summer if it’s warm enough to forgo the underquilt.

You can go much lighter with a ultralight tent (1lbs). Tarp + hammock + suspension will always be heavier (2-3lbs). In autumn and spring you need a better even heavier tarp setup for the hammock while you can still use the same ultralight tent.
An underquilt is also heavier than a thermarest.
For a quick overnighter in summer you can take the hammock + thermarest, no tarp, like a bivi setup and watch the stars and it works above treeline as well. Its also easier for elk to have access to your face.

I'm sorry anon, but you're a huge pussy. all you really need is a standard sleeping mat (I use a blow up mat), a well-rated bag, and maybe some handwarmers in your socks. picrel was my last set up and it got down to, at most, 20F that night and I woke up sweating.
