What you will find with Mediterraneans in general is that they drive everything onto the ground. This is derived from their sanguine excesses. On one hand I like their passion but it becomes silly. This excessive and arrogant passion for what they do is almost endearing honestly.
>oh this fig tree came from an estate in southern France we will call it a different variety than the identical one from a half mile away now we have 2,000 varieties of fig from an area the size of a few counties. >Oh this pasta from Italy has slightly larger ridges than the one from a town over you better not confuse them. >Oh this lemon grows on a slightly more volcanic soil you could never appreciate the difference. Kek. When I grow things this is what I do- I look for what grows well naturally and I plant it or things similar to it. The woods are filled with wild muscadine I grow muscadine. Why would a grow Bordeaux grapes kek?
Everyone is so focused on heirloom this or that and there are no more heirlooms being produced. In the new world we have so many untapped undeveloped wild plants because everyone came over and just wanted to grow heirlooms from the old world. The Indians didn't develop a whole lot other than a plum variety so you have all this untapped potential it seems like a waste not to focus on that.
