I'm down -76 jewros today.
I bought a webbing belt, suspenders, two gas mask bags (for the belt), straps, a shitty headband flashlight, as well as a scarf and bands for blousing pants. I'm building my outdoor autistic gear and I thought of going with cheap military surplus crap.

I didn't need GAS MASK bags, I just wanted bags and they were very cheap (like 3€). I do live in a region which could be at war soon so who knows. Might come in handy.

All in about $2k over the past 10 years, but now I have a quilt for every season and can choose between taking a hammock, tent, or just the tarp for the hammock.

The gear is the cheap part, the time away from work is where the real expense is.

I've spent so much in gear, not to mention travel costs. I haven't even gotten into camping yet so no tent, bags, etc.

Maybe in a tiny country. Not in the US. Especially if you have a normal M-F job. Cycling to anything would take up your entire trip unless you lived next to where you want to go. Getting out to the Rocky Mountains is a 2-3d alone from where i'm at. You can't just cycle that while maintaining a real job.
