On a whim I bought my brother this Chinese multtool with a fero rod/whistle combo. It also has a glass breaker and has enough weight that it could actually work. The screwdriver is stupid and limits what you could ever reach to unscrew. But he doesn't have the same kind of job or mechanical aptitude as I do, so it suits his needs just fine.
It seems to be a well made tool for the price. I won't switch because I need the leatherman warranty. But I do recommend it to anyone who is looking for an inexpensive outdoor multtool.
I really like that it comes with a pocket clip. You have to buy that for the surge.
