Hello /out/, I've finally decided to go for the AT next year but I've still got some questions/concerns:
>Food
This is my biggest worry. If I mail food in advance I could save some money on the trail but if I miss my window for getting it from the post office I'm fucked until they open again. On the other hand, if I buy stuff while on the trail that could rack up expenses quick, which I'd obviously rather not do. I read online there's basically 'I don't want this shit' boxes near camping sites where people dumb food/supplies they don't want but I'm sure that's an inconsistent resource.
>Trail runners vs boots
Almost every article I read online says trail runners but they also say to replace them every 400 miles which seems absurd to me. I imagine a good pair of boots would last a lot longer albeit with a higher risk of moisture accumulating.
>tents
Surely I don't need a fucking $500 tent (or really any other stupid expensive supplies) to do this? Would you recommend a freestanding tent or one with poles?
