I want to walk from the bottom of Finland to the top of Norway. I am a born & raised city boy, never did more than sports & playing in the woods as a kid.

Am I stupid for wanting to leave my rented house, store a couple small items at my family's place & start walking at 19? My family seems to think I am.

It would be 1520km for the most direct route, lets just assume 2000km.

Probably, but don’t let that stop you.

The biggest issue with any long hike is logistics. You have to figure out where you’re going to sleep, where to resupply, where to get water, and so on. Long trails like the AT haven guides written for them. They’re so popular that all of the planning has been done. Buy the guide and all of the questions are answered. Some are still tough, like the Pinhoti in the southern US. There’s a guide, but there are a few long stretches with limited places to resupply. Even the AT has one or two places where the only viable resupply is by maildrop or far off trail.

Presumably you’re walking from town to town, so food and occasional lodging becomes easier. But water might not be. Carrying it all might be ok, but it depends on how far you plan on walking.

Its a great idea. I only meet few people your age every year. Most older people wish they had done long hikes when they were younger, because when you are 30+, you can't recover as well as when you are young and some other reasons..
Your route is stupid though. What you should do is walk the UKK trail along the border. I would recommend to start in Ruka on the Karhunkierros trail and the E10, not in Helsing because the southern part is boring. When you get to Kekonen NP you walk west to Saari,Ivalo,Inari and then to Karasjok in Norway over Hamastunturi and Muotkatunturi. From Stabursdalen NP, Kautokeino or Lakselv or there are hiking trails to the North Cape.
And when you start early in Mai you will be at the North Cape mid Juli and have enough time to take the E1 to Trondheim or all the way down to Sweden. 3000km. a good summer.

Has always been, hike as far north as I can go, catch the Finnmark//Troms liner to Svalbard
And if I havnt frozen to death in a ditch along the way, maybe life was worth it anyway

I live in stockholm and have thought of doing something similar, biggest problem is where to pick up more food, either you have to stick close enough to stores that you can buy more every few days or have someone go in advance and stash it in specific places I guess
