I'm so tired of hearing this Reddit nonsense. Like, somehow this is going to SAVE your life if you encounter a bear in the wild.

My father's advice for encounter a grizzly bear was just to ignore them. Keep an eye on it and don't turn your back, but just meander confidently past it and get out of its path. Especially if it's a sow with cubs. If some grizzly approaches you on a trail, just get big and move to the side. Snarl loudly and yell if it gets closer, howling or barking like a coyote is good too. Bears hate dogs and will avoid them at any free chance. The only time you should lay and play dead is when a bear is attacking you and you've really got no other means to protect yourself except to curl into a ball.
