dog for yard work

my dad is aging and i want to get him a dog that would be able to help him clean up the yard and forest. specifically picking up sticks and putting them in a pile. does anyone know a good breed for this?

technically though, you don't "need" any specific breed, just a good training regiment
most (quality) mutts have a mix of classic breeds, making them well suited to training, as opposed to some breeds which have only been bred for looks in the recent decades
inbetween mauling children, pits can retrieve the bodies, just goes to show how well dogs have taken to domestication

just don't be surprised if your dad doesn't train the dog; its really hard to look at something thats cute, to an extent - retarded, and absolutely loves you, and say "go work for me!"

have you ever had/trained a dog? Has your dad? The work it takes to keep a dog might be more than the labour output it provides.
