Lets say I would like to climb the East Butte in Idaho. Is there a feasible way to do this that doesn't involve police trying to murder me for trespassing on INL land?

You ever mounted a butte before? Sometimes I go on expositions with Utah boys and they don't even know what a good butte looks like.

I have not. I drove past that though, or rather near, when I almost took a wrong turn towards the RWMC once. I see it has a road all the way to the top though on that one. that's another question I have for you Idaho boys. How do you even navigate to these trailheads? It looks like a maze of dirt roads once you leave the paved road.

Well the trick is persistence. It isn't always easy to find a way into a butte. Sometimes you need to go up a long crevice. But eventually you fully mount the butte and it's like you're walking on air. I wish you luck.

When i worked at INL they warned us not to go out there because back in the 50s and 60s the government ran bomb tests out there and a few deer blew up allegedly. So there might be undetonated bombs out there. Be careful

Hills are just mounds within the terrain a mountain is a distinctly individual land mass, you can see from the picture that's absolutely a mountain.

can someone explain what does this means exactly? i thought it means going up vertical walls and serious things where one might use rope and so on, but people keep using it to talk about something else

looking at OP pic, i might say "go up the East Butte" or "ascend" or "walk", but never "climb"
