we got into beekeeping April 2023. harsh climate with amateur newbies, didn't go well. they absconded in August. we identified our mistakes & we got second queen March 2024. hive made it through winter & all is going well. we just added a honey super on top of the brood hive.
we won't collect any honey until 2026. hive health first.
top right is the new situation, as of two weeks ago.
all other three (TL, BL, BR) are our original single-tier super. we bought a new two-tier hive last month, so we can start collecting honey next year. hive is 14 months old on our farm. Italian queen. now we have a second hive box, if they swarm/split, but our primary focus is hive health. quality over quantity. we live in a harsh climate and our orchard is in its infancy.
entirely new house & farm setup, on entirely untamed, vacant land when we bought it in 2022.
