>>2820724it has a good amount of tourist traps, but you can avoid those. theres a lot of incredible rainforest, mangroves and coast line. very good fishing on both coasts, decent coral reefs on the caribbean coast. loads of animals. if you're into birding, you will love it. bring good optical toys.
its definitely the safest latam country, but also the most expensive. a meal where the locals eat will cost you $5+, other restaurants start at $10. You'll have trouble finding a bed for less than $20. rental cars are insane. $1k a month or more for a 4x4. dry season is about december till april. rainy season has less tourists, but you WILL get wet.
if you bring a hammock with mosquito netting and a tarp, you can hike, bike or kayak for extended times and get far into the backcountry. the general vibe is very welcoming to gringos, but it helps a lot f you speak a little spanish.
