first time foraging, got a few questions
east coast maryland btw
1. can i forage in a state park? MD DNR website says nothing about a permit and googling it doesn't seem to bring up anything. the only thing i could find on the DNR site was a how-to on foraging and recipes
https://dnr.maryland.gov/cookbook/Pages/Living-off-the-Land-in-Marylands-Forests.aspx
2. anything crucial i should bring? i was basically just going to bring a compass, knife, park map, backpack, long pants/socks, rain gear, and some plastic bags to put mushrooms and shit in
3. anything i should watch out for? i'm worried about a lone star tick turning me into a vegan
according to a youtuber's foraging calendar my plan is basically this:
>hike a little bit off a trail in a forested state park
>mark a spot on google maps on my phone so i don't get lost
>collect hella morels and chicken of the woods, maybe ramps and fiddlehead ferns and stuff that shit into my backpack
>don't die
