heard something crashing around outside my house in early spring and my dogs were going bananas at the door. Was still new to the area (alaska) and figured someone might be trying to break in. Went outside with my rifle just in time to see a brown bear hauling ass into the woods with a trash bag and my "bear proof" trash can knocked over and wide open. Just about shit myself.

I live in the middle of nowhere in the woods in the eastern US and have come across black bears many many times close up, they just walk through my property like it's nothing. They run away, even one mom with cubs. I would never live anywhere where there are grizzlies or pbs

I see redbelly's a lot in my nearby national park but there are lots of eastern browns in there too. I can't even imagine how close I may have come to step on snek without seeing it. everything in there looks like a snake so you just have no chance seeing one, especially if you're out for a long time, your eyes just get tired trying to analyse every root and stick along the way
