Ice fishing and spearing is one of my favorite, but its been shitty this year with the early and large amount of snow, getting out onto lakes is a chore itself

Bait fishing I really enjoy walleye

But there's nothing I enjoy more than finding an outlet or pond full of asian carp and spear fishing. I used to use a five prong fishing spear that I bought but they would dull and get bent out of shape in a week. I eventually just made my own spear out of a rake handle with metal support on one end and a long bolt that I sharpened. Works way better anyway.

Pic is from last year, we had alot of flooding and this low area filled with a foot of incredibly murky water and alot of carp.

Favorite species right now would be largemouth. When I was in college in Northwest Arkansas I fished a lot of public waters and back then I was into catching white bass (when they were running it was the best thing ever), smallmouth, and snoutnose gar. We don't have those species where I'm at now and I've since become so annoyed with public lands because of the people that I see destroying them I avoid public all together.

I absolutely love jigging any type of soft plastic. Crawfish, tubes, etc.

My favorite water body isn't my favorite because of fishing but for other reasons so I won't mention it.

Pic is probably my largest freshwater fish. I've been on several charter trips in the Gulf f Mexico and some of the fish I caught there were the biggest I've ever caught. The Goliath grouper put the largemouth in pic to shame.

I really enjoyed the saltwater fishing but I don't get it to do it often. Something about being so far out that you can look all te way around you and not see any lad in sight.

Fish nymphs if you want to catch more fish. Floaters are more fun to watch though.

Also I probably catch three times as many fish fishing upstream as I do down stream.

Learn to play with the line so the fly doesn't move faster or slower than the water.

I like walleye (dem cheeks) and brook trout for eating.
Lake Huron and a variety of inland lakes here are fantastic.

Been on the ice catching lakers and browns jigging shiners on Moonshine yellow tail clowns. Not doing bad jigging for perch with minnows either.

Once caught a carp by hand that was as big as Godzilla's dick. Threw it back because I'm not Afro American.

There's no fishing there but Kitch-iti-kipi natural spring is a beautiful place to visit if you're in the U.P.

They weren't doing any harm and aren't an invasive species. I've snagged a few while bass fishing when I was younger that were completely gold, which I kept just to show people because I hadn't seen them like that in the wild before. Pretty fun reeling them in but that's about it.

Same for catfish, I've been told it tastes like shit cause it feeds on crap on the bottom of lakes and rivers, and that unless its 15lbs+ it won't put up much of a fight

I've never bothered to cook carp but catfish tastes like shit. Catching them is a challenge but fun. It's like reeling in a cinder block. Still not worth the effort, imo. If anything smoked carp or catfish would make for some decent raccoon bait if you're in to trapping.

I dunno) they said it was too clear water near the beach to catch but went anyway because less people and better view.
I'm only new so still learning (again, I casted fished/better when I was way younger...), caught my hand on the line a couple of times while doing it but realised I wasn't holding the line tight enough (so it got loose at reel). Are any ways better for casting (I usually do it sideways, going 180 degrees but aiming upwards at the end) or is just practice or the rod/sinkers you use?
Also I got 2 rods, ones longer/thicker (or doesnt flex as much) and the others flexes alot with just the sphere sinker, which could fit into a beer bottle only just (best size description thats semi-universal).
And with releasing them, what should I do if I can't get the hook out quick enough? One was stuck right in but the other 2 swam off fine, this one sat there for a couple of seconds then shot off. Is that normal or should I put it in a water bucket/something with water till I can get it back, I read it's bad to keep them out for long when releasing (I'm still noob so that's why, don't know anyone besides uncle who fishes alot and I don't really speak to him much).
Any fishing sites/stuff to read that anyone has would be good, from aus..
Also I changed hook, used flathead hook and got the bream/flathead, bream hook got the flathead. I got told the hooks were for different fish, the flathead hook was straight and longer while the breamhook was curved mostly and shorter... does it matter so much with hook/sinker/rod/bait being a noob or should I just keep doing what I'm doing till i git gud?

Using a power auger. The ice is about 2 1/2 - 3 feet thick in some areas. Got a hand auger too but that'd take half an hour to drill one hole.

I found a bunch exploring, snorkeling, and kayaking. Some just needed new treble hooks. They drained the dam by my aunts farm once, and many treasures were had. The small trout and perch ones have landed pike, bass, crappe, even sunfish. It really does look like a minnow when moving through the water at the right speed.

Me and a buddy caught 5 seabass this day, kept 2, let 2 go, and handed off another hooked seabass to a fellow boater, and allowed them to reel it in on their boat. The limit was 1 per person during this time of the season. Can't wait to do it again this season.

Well the top tin needs new split rings and hook, and the bottom one could use some cleaning. It would help if you talked exact species of sea trout though, and also don't use snap and those crappy twisted wire swivels.

Hey. I never grew up fishing but I've always been interested in it. How much would it run you up to start out? Are those $20 poles you see junk or decent enough to start? Bass are retarded and will bite on damn near anything. I've used cheapo poles and slightly-less-than-cheapo poles. They work fine IMO.

I just bought a stumpy little 4ft Shakespeare setup from wally world for 20 bucks to pack /out/ with.

You can get a decent long lasting setup for around 75 that will outlast and feel much better to use then the 20 dollar combos.
If you are good at noticing patterns and details it can be very intuitive. Research is your friend though, and with fish being living creatures even people who've been fishing for years will get skunked. So don't be discouraged if you do too on your first trip.

Bass that live in heavily fished waters tend to be much smarter than bass that don't see very many lures. They hold tournaments almost weekly where i live and its damn near impossible to catch anything sizeable without using a lure that they have not seen before. The smarter bass will never hit the same lure twice.

1) Buy a cheap rod, a spool of line (15 pound test mono is fine), a couple sinkers and a pack of assorted artificial plugs. Big K Mart, Costco, Walmart, they're all good for this kind of shit. Stay cheap is the name of the game. Think under 100$. Go for a push button reel if you're a complete moron, otherwise an average spin reel will do you fine.

2) Find a body of water with fish in it. Now don't be a dumb-dumb and go fishing in some mud puddle behind your house - find a nice lake or calm river somewhere, or if you're by the sea a good calm inlet. Remember one thing though - no vegetation on the bottom, no fish worth getting for a beginner.

3) Read up on some basic knots, nothing fancy, just so you can tie a hook and not have it slip the moment a 2 ounce sunfish bites. Go to a library, or google. Practice with sewing thread.

4) Get out there with a buddy (never fish alone unless you're a grizzled old mountain man, it plain old ain't much fun) and shoot the shit while laughing at how much you suck. Bring beer and a good attitude - doesn't matter if you don't catch anything, fishing is a great way to kill time.

5) Repeat step 4 until you can catch a couple fish every once in a while

6) If you're still on board, invest in better bait, maybe try some spinners, live bait or catfish balls. Whatever floats your boat. Try to sniff out new fishing spots, and see if your friends have friends who are into fishing.

Clean them. Remove scales. Cut them into reasonable sized chunks. Roll them in the cornmeal and spices I keep in a ziploc bag in a pocket of my backpack and fry them in my little bitty mess kit skillet. An orange plastic Boy Scout match holder will hold enough oil to fry quite a few tasty bits, and it won't leak.
