If you feel like you have to pedal at an uncomfortably high cadence, shift into a harder gear. Once you're moving faster, the centrifugal force of the wheels stabilizes the bike.

You should be able to sit on the bike and lean with one leg to either side at a stop
You may need to get a smaller frame or wheel size(29" is a lot for non-serious bikers, I prefer 27.5)
Also, get a dropper post so that you can easily adjust the seating position without fucking with the tension doohickey

You should begin with one pedal almost at the top. Stand on this pedal to push yourself forward. Once you are moving, you can prevent the bike from tipping over by steering towards the direction the bike begins to fall. The initial push should give you enough momentum to prevent the fall and allow you to put the other foot in the other pedal .

I just got my first actual bike, how do the gears work?
I have 1-3 on one side and 1-7 on the other, whenever I switch the numbers I feel I am fucking something up with the noise it makes
