That's like half the weight of my Kelty Salida 1. I'd say you did well for $10. Hammock still best for good weather though.

This might be an older design. The one I saw in my old hiking group had really deep cat cuts along the edge of the rain fly.

For $10 it’s an absolute steal. You might have some condensation issues being a single walled shelter but it’s not the end of the world.

Hammock pros:
>comfort (not debatable)

Cons:

>often heavier and bulkier than a tent, especially if you’re trying to remain equivalent with regards to weight and bulk
>often less privacy than a tent; most tarps do t have doors (doors are heavy and considered a winter option)
>steep learning curve; any tard can pitch a tent on their first try, but you’ll need to fiddle with a hammock to get it just right
>wind can be an issue; the tarps are huge
>need trees; not conducive to all environments

I'm not an advanced hammocker. I only use them in warm, dry weather, so no underquilts or any other extra stuff that brings their weight and bulk too close to a tent to be worth it for me.

i have this exact tent and have been using it for years. it is perfectly fine. you will wake up with condensation because it doesn't breathe well.

idk why you'd need to upsize... you can do everything in a 1 person unless you are like 6'5". i cook in mine i throw everything in it if it starts raining just in case the vestibule doesnt hold. It'd be more comfortable sure, but it's certainly not necessary and it's lighter so unless it effects your sleeping its not necessary imo

Never owned one but I bummed one off a buddy for an entire summer once when they were still selling these. It's only an OK tent imo. It's got way too many guylines and setup is unintuitive. It can be difficult to get a good pitch out in the field as compared to a nice flat area in your backyard or a park. It also suffers majorly from condensation and has poor ventilation when the doors are closed. Pros: it's lightweight, relatively spacious when pitched correctly, and you got it for $10. For that price it's an excellent tent. Use it until you can save for a better one. Spend time fucking around with staking it up now so you don't have to figure it out innawoods when you're dehydrated, hungry and elevation sick.

If you get penned in bad weather or get sick you'll appreciate the extra room. I've just come back from 4 days in one spot and the weather was shit so spent most of the time in my tent doing drugs and I was glad I got a three man tent.

Living in the South where humidity is a serious problem. A larger interior allows for more airflow, replacing air filled with my own breath to be replaced with slightly less humid air, resulting in less condensation and only being slightly damp in the morning.
