Got a question for geologists/oil field people/enviromentalists.

I live in mckean county and there's a metric fuckton of oilwells drilled in the early 1900's. some are still producing, some are dry and capped, some are abandoned and uncapped.

these abandoned wells are seeping crude oil and spilling on the ground. the state and other agencies have investigated and said: yes its bad but we are not funding it.

now here's my question: if i got the land owners permission, how could i cap the wells?

scrap the derrick/pump jack/pipe/ whatever is left.

put a rock catcher 30-50 feet down. fill about 10-15 feet with gravel. fill the rest with concrete.

dig up the contaminated soil and donate to hot mix asphalt processes. i don't want to take it to a land fill since all that is doing is moving the problem and not fixing it.

i work, ironically, for a frac company, but they are very serious about their image, have a zero spill policy on ANYTHING, even fresh water, and i would not hesitate to report them if they were not diligent in being enviromentally safe.

Needless to say, i make a few pennies, enough to start a small operation.
