>>2833822>White picket fence enclosing the front yard backed by a dense hedge to shelter and attract small birds, ideally a local flowering species to attract too. Height of the hedge depends on how much privacy I want. >Vegetable garden in the front yard, maybe a fruit tree and a bird bath too. >Backyard depends on the local environment and what I'm going to use it for. Either a row of tall, columnar trees along the back fence or a big tree right in the center of the yard. Most important thing you can do is get your neighbors on board and help them improve their gardens too. You're going to have much better luck attracting wildlife if your yard isn't the only three trees in the middle of a vast monoculture of empty grass.
Talk to your neighbors, get them inspired with pictures of what the street could look like in 5-10 years time (pointing out that neighborhoods with established trees and plantlife look more upscale and that will improve property values), provide them with advice on cheap plants suited to the local area and offer to go out and buy them together, help them plant them, and enjoy making your neighborhood a better place.
