that's why i bought it. my previous hammock was the cheap milsurp jungle hammock with the nylon canopy. worked a charm and loved having no bugs, but it was an absolute nightmare if it rained. the DD is so much better... actually modular and you take or leave what you want.

i watched some of the video reviews before i bought it and it seems most of them had a harder time seting it up than i did. i think it's pretty straight forward and haven't had trouble.

ALSO i went ahead and bought a second fitted tarp. that way with one on top and one on bottom you're completely protected from rain and wind in there. also just got the underquilt in the mail but haven't been able to use it yet. the spare tarp fits inside the complression sack with the other tarp and hammock. it's quite nice.

dat red fleece sleeping bag liner. my nigga. that was one of the first things purchased for me when i joined boyscouts way back in the day. i still have it. i still use it. it only comes up to chest now, but i love that bad boy. its also my go to for traveling when i dont know where ill be sleeping (im talking about like crashing at a friends dorm in another city) definitely one of the best purchases anyone ever made for me. it has seen so much mileage, even rolled up and used as a pillow, it always finds a use.

i think so. if you take care of it there's no reason it shouldn't last like 10 years. it's SO fucking roomy and comfortable and private. value is even better because it's modular and you can put it on the the ground as a bivy. i'm quite chuffed about the whole thing, no remorse whatsoever. plus it's such a massive step-up from my last crappy one (old pic related)

also - the most important thing in hammock care is making sure it's 100% dry before you pack it away! when you get home, unpack it and hang it up for like a day or two to make sure it's 100% dry. otherwise it'll weaken badly in storage and you don't wanna find out the hard/painful way you've fucked up your expensive hammock

haha same here! well, this was gifted to me only last year BUT it's with me all the time. crashing on couches, etc. it's my main bag now in summer, and for winter it's my liner (the thick fleece is supposed to add 12º-15ºF to your bag! mine's nice and long though, like 6'+

the DD Jungle hammock is their most expensive and it's like US$190... if you add an extra tarp to that it's about $225. If you add the underquilt it starts getting a little nerve-wracking....

yeah my new cold weather bag was a little pricey but i didn't have one anymore and really needed it. even if not camping, i need something to crash in the car/basements etc on the weekends (we drink and dont drive). it was only $100 but it pained me to part with the cash. here's the cmpression sack though - this has EVERYTHING in it - the hammock, poles, bug net, tree straps, carabiners, TWO tarps, and the slings. pretty goo if you ask me...

DD is great stuff, then it all depends on how much money you're ready to put into it, and how much you want to carry.

For lighter and cheaper alternatives, check Grand Trunk, their basic hammocks are incredibly small and light, great for their price, and actually, about as cheap as if you did it yourself.

I think I'd prefer to carry a separate tarp (Which you'll probably need to do anyway) and a lighter hammock than the Jungle just for the issue of breathability.

I own a Clark NX-250, it's the same design. It's a bit more pricey than 200$ but I love every inch of it. Will modify it with whoopie slings and got myself a different tarp, but it's just an awesome piece of gear.

I got an ENO doublenest, Bug Guardian, and equinox Egret Tarp. I got about $150 in my setup. I'm going to have to come up with an under quilt next season. Been using my thermarest in the hammock, it works OK but is not ideal. I've seen a few DIY under quilts using a poncho liner. May give this a try but can't imagine it would work for anything below 40F.

idk im not really a huge fan of velcro, i guess strictly speaking its just a personal preference and not really a factor of functionality. but i feel like snaps or another method could work just as well. of course, i dont own the hammock, so i have no idea how it would actually be, the velcro just sort of had a brief cameo in the youtube video i watched.

the only velcro is around the sides if you want to attach the tarp to the bottom of the hammock. if you attach the tarp to the top like in the pic you don't use any velcro, the bug net comes on and off with zippers... the velco is a pretty minor feature imo.

and yeah, sliding the poles through the tubes is a pain, especially if the hammock is swaying and twisting because of wind etc. i worry that over time the fabric tubes will get worn-out from channel the poles in and out :\
