>>2845907I think it's because bongs, Americans and the frogs would have found the mississippi before we found the missouri. like the mississippi was probably found in new orleans and if you go from the east coast you probably hit the mississippi south of st. louis off of the ohio or tennessee so you would have gotten the mississippi name from the tribes who lived down river.
the nile gets around this because the 2 major sources are the white nile and the blue nile. but the nile still does the retarded thing where the white nile is longer so it's the source/headwaters even though 80% of the discharge comes from the blue nile
