Anyone here ever go /out/ in restricted/illegal areas? Any advice for accessing these spaces?

It's not like I want to do something illegal, but holy god is it really frustrating when beautiful overlooks or waterfalls are kept on private property. And not even property being USED for anything, just vast timber company holdings sitting vacant. I think Americans get off on control and violence and really like enforcing trespassing with guns and intimidation.
There's also lots of cases where you would somehow have to go through private land to get to an overlook that's on public land, or the reverse, or places that are public land but have zany restrictions like gates that close at 4pm, only open certain days of the week, or worst there one waterfall in the south where a power company owns it so it's only open 2 weekends a year, even though it used to be open all the time. And of course, our government doesn't care at all.

If I get rich and buy a bunch of land and there's a waterfall on my property, I am by no means required to make it available to the public. I don't where you're from but your basic assumptions about what rights the public does or does not have are completely wrong. Also, stop being poor. Timber companies don't "get off on control", they're just out to make money you dunce.

I guess that's a good idea, but I hate how so many overlooks or waterfalls are a game of "will I get caught for parking or walking in some sketchy ambiguous location". It feels like they derive joy from getting you in trouble, more so than letting you see whatever beauty is nearby.

Find out how they have the property recorded for tax purposes. Many are listed as "open space" and should be available for public access and recreation. But if they tell you to get lost or post it no trespassing, just offer to have a word with the assessor about back taxes owed.

Wilderness designation.
Just so people don't dodge property taxes and close the gate except when they want to trash it themselves. Behavior in true wilderness areas is regulated and sometimes policed by gov't agencies. Making that designation a sign of an honest attempt at protection.

Sometimes camp on army tank/artillery ranges when there is no firing going on. Often wild camp in forest, moorland hills and mountains without the landowners permission but trespass is a civil offence in the UK so at worst you will be asked to take your tent down, most of the wild land here is open access so you have a right to be walking over it even if there is no designated right of way.

I can't think of any other big/impressive stuff right now. It's usually little things. When I was a teenager I'd trespass in unoccupied/for-sale homes a lot just to feel like a big rebel (retarded), it's astounding how many for-sale homes will have an unlocked back door. Real estate agents are a special class of retarded. Now my main >trespassing is taking the occassional shortcut on a bike through private land or a short hike on 'private, no trespassing' undeveloped and empty wilderness tract land.

Did you know that trees take decades to grow?
Logging company land is not vacant, it's a growing crop that they harvest in sections as it comes to age, and when they are done they plant a new field of trees to start the process over.

I’ve taken a kayak with my brother, a friend, and camped on this island off the coast of Lake Michigan in Wilderness State Park. It’s restricted but it’s easy to get away with going there if you got the right equipment.
